FS Doyle: Artist
re-VIEW (memories reframed)
Newview Gallery, 2007
re-VIEW (memories reframed) was a group exhibition of 14 artists, curated by eO inc. Each artwork featured a 30x30x30cm perspex box and centred around the theme of 'memory'.
My work, titled Failed Memory, is about the failing and fragmented memory. I have portrayed the human head as a tangle of dust-covered wires in a perspex box, the wires crossing the top and centre of the box, broken and falling down in parts. A broken earplug hangs from the centre of the tangle, representing bad communication. We are privy to the inside of somebody's mind, but we aren't given a coherent story, or even pictures or words, just a tangled mass of electrical items, the inside of a broken machine.
